HAPPY FASHION NEW YEAR! The true New Year – at least to this fashion lover – is not January 1st but Labour Day, September 4th. It’s when fall is in the air, families return from summer vacation and everyone gets into warm cosy mode. And it’s the biggest fashion season in Canada. My #FNYResolution (that would be Fashion New Year Resolution) is pretty simple …
I resolve to have more fun with fashion. To me, that means I’ll be looking for really different fabulous statement pieces – think colour, pattern, texture, silhouette. Goodness knows, I don’t need any more basics. And I’m going to be styling my old favourites in creative new ways. This has nothing to do with price, it’s about infusing my wardrobe with more imagination and a joyful spirit.
I’m starting with my outfit here. I’ve never worn a bomber jacket before – it was the silver sleeves paired with a lush floral that attracted me to this Dries van Noten design. And it’s reversible to black satin – so perfect when I’m feeling a little less flashy. Here I’m wearing it with Theory cropped trousers and Prada sneakers. In the winter, I’ll wear it over one of my black skirts with tights and boots, or skinny black trousers with heels.
I’ve already found a couple of unbelievable Canadian designs that I can’t wait to wear and photograph – a red Vesuvius jacket by Marie Saint Pierre, a reversible leopard pattern trench coat by ThermaKota, and a feathered sleeveless Ward vest by Greta Constantine. I’m excited for fall – what’s your #FNYResolution?
